Professor Karim received his education in India, Pakistan and the United States. He holds Masters’ degrees in History, Political Science and Education, and a Doctorate in Political Science. His experience includes Comparative Politics, Political Philosophy and Public Administration. He has taught in Private Colleges in New York, the University of Phoenix, Maryland Campus, Columbia, MD, and the Washington Center, Washington, DC. He is currently working as a translator and language consultant along with his teaching assignments.
Professor Karim has authored 14 books and has written over 100 research articles and
papers. At the University of Karachi, Pakistan, he was a Professor, and also served as Chairman of Political Science and Public Administration and as a Registrar. Professor Karim was a Fulbright Senior Scholar, has received American Research Award, and was the President of the Pakistan Political Science Association.
Professor Karim has over 40 years of experience in varied fields that include governance, development, public administration, management, consultancy, teaching and research. He was a trainer at the Training Institute for the mid-career Public Servants of Pakistan. He chaired, organized and developed courses for Masters and Ph. D. in Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Karachi and for the University Grants Commission of Pakistan. As the Registrar of the University of Karachi, he oversaw personnel management and supervised the academic programs. He developed and organized courses and research projects on globalization, gender issues and ethno-regional problems and their impact on the socio-economic and political conditions of the developing world
Professor Karim has inter-disciplinary background in teaching and research. He has taught at Universities in Pakistan (Punjab, Sindh and Karachi) and in the United States (Southern Illinois, Arizona, State University of New York at Stony Brook, and at Dowling College on Long Island, NY.) He has delivered lectures as visiting Professor in several universities around the world that include Europe, Asia and Northern America.
Through his experience, Professor Karim has developed an understanding of American politics and its relevance to the developing countries, particularly on issues of governance, democracy, capacity building, and interaction between government and non-governmental organizations.
Professor Karim has been presently engaged in working on the studies of comparative world religions with special reference to Islam. He also has deep knowledge and understanding of South Asian politics, culture, languages, and both public and private organizations. His special interest is Pakistan Government and the Government’s operations at various levels from policy planning to implementation at the local government level.
His family history includes a freedom fighter of Bihar in the name of Syed Kasim Shere of Patna. His great-grand father, Nawab Sarfraz Hussain of Patna was one of the sixteen members of the famous Simla Deputation of 1906 which went to see then the Governor General of India, Lord Curzon and which became a focal point for the formation of the All India Muslim League. His father in law, Col Dr. Syed Abdur Rahman of Dumranwa, District Patna, was the personal physician to the Qaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. He had gone to Turkey during World War-I along with famous Dr. Ansari to offer medical help there. His father served Patna University as a Professor of History.
